Meeting de Avance
The yearly Meeting de Avance was help at the SPC Gym this afternoon. I am happy that the event had a lot of good content in it and made a lot of sense. One of the things bothering me about it is that there are some candidates that I am not confident to be in the position they are running for. Running for these kind of positions is not easy basing from one of last years SALIGAN members who happens to be one of my classmates. I can see that the person is having a hard time but a good thing is that she is able to pull it through. I can tell that some people are running just for FAME and for the sake of having that title in the year book. Some of them, is really trying to get noticed. I even heard some people saying that “Sobrang papapel yang taong yan!” And for which, I can also say that he is really like that. Stupid enough to run for a high position, some people will hate them. Now to the platforms, the platforms are good for both parties.

My thoughts about their platform is that some of them have already been accomplished and some is already being discussed upon by the administration. Fees are already transparent with the papers being passed around ex. Breakdown of Fees for the Nursing Acquaintance Party. What’s the sense of having that kind of platform when its already being done by the school and by the organizations. The WiFi services is not a matter for them to hold but that of the administration. It is still being processed and we have seen improvements. More internet time? I understand why people want more internet time but I can also say that. What’s the point of having more internet time when you have crappy computers and lame internet connection? For printing? Okay fine, printing but its not 24/7 that the internet lab is available for use and besides! Most students already have computers, laptops and have easy access to internet cafes. Internet Cafes are the establishments that provide good internet speed while having an appropriate computer for you to use. Good enough for you not to lose your work and they don’t just HANG for some unknown reason. Open-forum? Hmm.. Not bad, but even has their mouths wide open and can just go directly to the OSA, guidance office, faculty and the level chairperson if they have complaints or problems. They can help you if you have concerns about the school policy. Create dynamic avenues for school activities may be one of their most useless platforms. It is the SALIGAN’s responsibility to make each school activity unique and enjoyable than that of any other event. And they claim that they would make things SMART (Short, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Time bounded) yet what the truth is that their platform has already been done in the past and just recycling things.
ADVOCACY OF STUDENTS’ RIGHTS AND INTERESTS
MAGDALO advocates the students’ right to take part on the decision making on matters concerning students’ welfare. The students, above all, must have the firsthand information about the happenings inside their student government and very important student affairs.
PROGRESS AS WHOLE SPC COMMUNITY
MAGDALO aspires to resolve issues of inequity in all the courses of San Pedro College and instead promote excellence among all the students from each department.
SOCIALIZED ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE
We envision a supreme student government working closely in lifting further our zeal towards excellence.
FISCAL AUTONOMY
We shall move for ” Financial Independence from the administration with proper governance for immediate disposition of needed expenses to finance projects and activities for the studentry.

Now for the MAGDALO-Solid. I’ve been into several poor comments with them especially with that of the last year’s batch. Their platform this year is quite better and seems to be assuring than that of LAHAT’s platform. Advocacy of Student’s Rights and Interests. Most students don’t really know what rights they already have until they get to take on Political Science. With this advocacy, students may be able to know what their rights are as early as possible. Current members of SALIGAN are already approachable as far as I know. I’ve been into their office many times. I don’t know about others but I believe the next batch can be more approachable than the last batch just don’t abuse them. “The students, above all, must have the firsthand information about the happenings inside their student government and very important student affairs.” Yes! Students must be aware of the events occurring in the institution. There were several problems last year that has made me write poor comments about the group. With the second advocacy of MAGDALO, I believe such a conflict can be minimized or can be prevented from happening. And I am really hoping that it won’t happen again. Socialized academic excellence? Supreme student government? Well.. I have no comment on this one. As long as they give us a good reason to where our funds would be going, I’m fine with that. Fiscal autonomy may be a good idea but it also has its bad sides such as unwise spending of funds. I believe that whoever gets to the positions in SALIGAN should be responsible enough to properly use the funds and resources to them. Proper supervision is indeed required as we may not have enough knowledge on how to get our resources.
Final say: So far, during the event today, the loudest supporters were that of the LAHAT but most people there were the supporters of MAGDALO. I remember a saying, “Empty cans make the loudest noise.”
Vote wisely in the Student Council Election on August 6 and 7. Do not vote those who are unworthy to receive the title.
Thank you for reading this article.

The battle is over. The students have chosen! LAHAT made it! LAHAT rules! Dapat LAHAT!
Sorry but I’m sick and tired of hearing that lame tag line.
